A jigsaw puzzle is one of the simplest ways to build a child's thinking. To finish one, your child has to look closely, compare shapes and colours, remember where a piece might go, and keep trying when it does not fit. How many pieces for which age?

Most 4 year olds are comfortable with self-correcting 2-piece pairs and big floor puzzles of around 50 pieces. By 5 and 6, children can handle more pieces, multiple levels and puzzles that combine with a card game. If your child is new to puzzles, start with Count & Match or Alpha Match and move up to the jumbo floor puzzles.
